مصادر البحث

لقد اكتفينا بذكر ما أشارت إليه هوامش المبحث من الأوراق الحكومية، وكتابات المعاصرين، وبحوث المؤرخين، فأغفلنا عددًا كبيرًا من المراجع التي تتناول الموضوع من شتى نواحيه ولا يتسع المقام لذكرها، والأوراق الحكومية منها ما هو منشور، ومنها ما يزال مودعًا في دور محفوظات الدول، سواء في القاهرة أو في لندن وباريس وفيينا وواشنطن.

ومما يجب ذكره أنه يوجد بسراي عابدين صورة كاملة من الوثائق الأمريكية مأخوذة بالفوتستات من واشنطن؛ ولذلك أدخلنا هذه الوثائق ضمن «الوثائق» الموجودة بالسراي العامرة. وقد ذكرنا عند الإشارة إلى المحفوظات المصرية نمرة الدفتر، ورقم الوثيقة، وفعلنا ذلك عند ذكر الوثائق الأمريكية، فأثبتنا نمرة المجلد، ورقم الوثيقة، ثم اتَّبَعنا هذه الطريقة نفسها عند الإشارة إلى الوثائق الإنجليزية والفرنسية والنمساوية، ونشر رينيه قطاوي بك الوثائق الروسية الموجودة ضمن محفوظات قنصلية روسيا العامة في مصر. وقد أثبتنا هذه تحت اسمه ضمن الوثائق الأخرى المطبوعة.
